I have a guilty pleasure. I confess that I get up really early each morning to watch old episodes of reality TV shows where the brides behave badly and more than half of bridesmaids find themselves ejected from the wedding party at the last minute. It’s fun TV drama, but hardly what we want for our own lives.

Instead of managing your wedding party like a tyrant-zilla, join forces and work together to get across the finish line. Follow these simple do’s and don’ts for collaborating with your leading ladies.

Do ASK. Do Not Demand

You know what they say about flies and honey…live it! When you need something done, use your manners and ask instead of assigning it as an unpaid job.

Do Act Courteously

Remember that things like jobs and money change, and your besties might not think this is a good time to tell you that they’re struggling. Keep expenses reasonable, timelines generous, and directions clear.

Do Organize

Nothing is more maddening than wanting to help but not knowing what to do, where to go, or when you need to be done. Don’t push things like dress fittings off until the very last minute. Plan ahead and be diligent about communicating important information to your crew.

Do Lead Your Team with Love

Last, be rewarding – make friendship with you a reason others want to help. And don’t forget to say “thank you” in a million ways every day. If you approach your wedding party with love and respect, your team will most certainly see you through your big day!
