Q: What location did you pick to have your wedding and why did you choose this place?
We chose Milikan Farms in Sophia, NC. We knew we wanted to be married outside and we knew we wanted something more casual and rustic. When I showed this venue to my fiance online, he knew it was the one, but they did not have a date we wanted. Once we saw it in person, we fell in love and knew we wanted to be married there. Since we were flexible on the date, we decided to opt for a Friday wedding so we could make it happen. I had a thing about wanting to get married on an “odd” year on an “odd” day, so the Friday they had available (September 29, 2017) felt like it was meant to be!”

Q: Did you have a particular theme or color scheme? Is there a story behind this color theme and why you chose it?
“I was actually unsure of the colors I wanted to use initially. I love corals and beachy colors, but they didn’t feel right for an outdoor September wedding. One of my bridesmaids, Ashley, was helping me look for inspiration for dresses and themes and came across Azazie on Instagram. She showed me a picture of three dresses together in Coral, Dusty Rose, and Pearl Pink. I was instantly in love! I ordered swatches in several different shades and went back and forth multiple times before deciding on the Dusty Rose and Pearl Pink. From there, I based the rest of the wedding around the Azazie swatches choosing romantic greens and using corals, teals, and gold as my accent colors.”

Q: What was the best/most memorable part of the day?
“It is really hard to pick just one moment, because the day was so magical and everything came together way better than I ever envisioned. There was a moment with my dad when I was waiting to walk down the aisle that I realized all my stress and nerves had faded. I had always thought, how do brides get down the aisle and make it through their wedding without crying? I can barely watch a stranger’s wedding on TV without shedding a few tears. But in the last moments before becoming Mrs. Horton, I told my dad we weren’t going to cry, we were going to smile and laugh, because I had never felt more ready for something in my entire life.”

Q: Why did you choose Azazie for your bridesmaids?
“The main reason I chose Azazie is because of the inspiration I found from their social media and the color swatches I ordered were perfect. But in addition to that, after researching other companies and dresses, I found that Azazie had excellent prices in various different styles. I didn’t want my bridesmaids spending over $200, I wanted to make sure they all felt comfortable that day, and I wanted a convenient process for my out of town girls. I feel like it would be impossible to find one dress that compliments everyone the same and makes everyone feel comfortable and Azazie allowed everyone to find something they liked. I assigned the girls colors and they had a blast trying on samples and finding the right fit. Some found it on the first try and some ordered multiple samples before they chose.”

Q: Any tips or advice for anyone getting married soon?
“Several people told me to make sure to take moments for ourselves that day and to pause and take it all in. To remember that the guests are there for us, we are not there for them. It is extremely hard to not get caught up in the moment and forget to pause, but it is important to try! The day was so perfect and such a whirlwind, I wish I could do it all over and hug more people, dance a little more, thank people more, laugh harder, and pause more to take it all in.”

Q: Did you enjoy the wedding planning process? Why or why not?
“We tried to eliminate too much planning time by setting our date pretty quickly. We got engaged in February and married in September. We got all of the big items out of the way very quickly (venue, food, music, photographer) leaving only the details to sort out. Turns out the details are the hard part! My least favorite thing was probably the guest list. I always felt like I missed someone or invited too many people, but in the end it turned out great. Being a graphic designer, I took on almost everything myself. I made our invitations, all of the signs at the wedding, and tried to carry the same theme throughout all of the decorations. All in all, there were some very stressful times with differences in opinion, but most of it was pretty smooth and easy. I also had lots of support from friends and family when it came down to the details and organization. My mother-in-law hand made all of the paper flowers, my mother made the cake and all of the cupcakes, my husband cut all of the wood for the tables from trees at his parents house, and my bridesmaid Ashley helped me make several items, along with decorating our sweetheart table as a surprise! All of my friends and family really made a great effort to pitch in and did whatever they could to help.”

Q: Where did you find/hear about Azazie?
“I had originally planned to let the girls buy whatever dress they wanted as long as it was in the color I chose and while looking for styles she liked, one of my bridesmaids, Ashley, found an Azazie dress she liked. Once we started researching and looking at the products, I was sold! i think she originally found it on Instagram.”

Q: Describe your wedding in one word.
“Magical”

Q: Anything else you’d like to add?
“I think one of the most important things I learned was to not settle for something if it wasn’t what I wanted. The small details mattered a lot to me and I am very happy I worked to find solutions to be able to afford and create my dream day. Also, I was overwhelmed with gratitude the day of the wedding when I saw so many people pitching in to help make our fairy-tale come true. Everyone did such an amazing job and I truly felt the love that went into our wedding.”
